action :: guatemalan sinkhole

June 1

as tropical storm Agatha hit Guatemala a few days ago, the ground became saturated with water, causing a few spontaneous ‘sinkholes’ in the capital city. this one is by far the largest, and consumed an entire three-story building. when i first saw it online today i didn’t think it was real, but then i found it on Guatemala’s official government flickr page. unreal.

another storm is set to hit Guatemala in the coming days, with their only international airport closed for 3 days, the country is facing tough times getting international aid. for a list of places that can help click here.

this is the beginning of a nasty storm&hurricane season this year, as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has just released it’s 2010 forecast for the season.
