other :: winter 2010 olympic medals

February 8

old electronics turned into this years vancouver winter olympic medals. a canadian company, teck resources, harvested the leftover gold, silver and bronze from old computers and turned back into medals. it’s an interesting move from a company that has notoriously terrible record with e-waste and environmental impact of its electronic devices.

for an awesome video about the designers behind the new move, check out flavorwire. a healthy step forward for placing some value on the 11,000 computer a day that are thrown out in the USA alone.. next step: reuse.
